Valcivir 500 & 1000 Mg
What is this drug?
Valcivir is used to treat viral infections in immunocompetent patients. It is specially used for infections caused by herpes zoster, varicella-zoster and herpes simplex. It is used to treat shingles, chicken pox, cold sore and genital herpes. It is also used to prevent recurrence of genital herpes.
Classification and Mechanism of Action
Valcivir contains Valacyclovir as the active ingredient. It is an anti-viral agent. It inhibits the growth of the virus by blocking its DNA replication. This is accomplished by inhibiting and inactivating DNA polymerase enzyme and termination of the DNA chain. This causes irreversible damage to the DNA strand of the viral cell.
